About the Project
The West Fork Project focuses on removing stormwater from the combined sewer system to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into the West Fork Creek and the Mill Creek.
This federally mandated project, part of MSD’s solution for the Mill Creek, will eliminate an estimated 173 million gallons of CSOs into the Mill Creek each year.
The West Fork Project includes the following:
- CSO 125 project (also known as the Martha and North Basins project) collects stormwater in two detention basins and directs the flow through an outlet pipe to the West Fork Creek. This project reduces overflows at CSO 125, the largest volume overflow in the West Fork watershed. The project began in March 2018 and was completed in summer 2020.
- The CSO 127/128 project collects storm water from Mt. Airy Forest in new storm sewers and directs the flow to the West Fork Creek. This project, which was completed in 2015, reduces overflows at CSOs 127 and 128.
