MSD Hosts Kings Run Project Update Meeting
On July 31, 2014, MSD hosted a public meeting on the Kings Run Project. About 60 people attended the event at Harmony Lodge in Spring Grove Village to learn about MSD's plan to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into the Kings Run stream and the Mill Creek.
MSD's King Run Project includes four phases (A-1, A-2, B and C) that will be constructed between 2016 and 2018 in College Hill, Spring Grove Village and Winton Hills.
The Kings Run Project will control 90% of the combined sewer flows into the Kings Run stream at CSO 217 and 85% of the combined sewer flows into the Mill Creek at CSO 483. The project will also restore the historical connection between the Kings Run stream and the Mill Creek and improve the water quality of the two streams.
Features of the project include:
- Four stormwater detention basins to slow stormwater flow.
- Sewer separation to redirect stormwater flow from the combined sewer system to the Kings Run stream and the Mill Creek.
- CSO storage tank to capture and store CSO flows at CSO 217.
- Stream stabilization of Kings Run stream to slow water flow and reduce erosion.
- A small rain garden will also be installed at the Great Cincinnati Water Works reservoir in College Hill.
